There are plenty of ways to make the holidays feel special this year — even if you can’t have everyone join you in-person.
If you’re throwing a virtual holiday party, here are 5 easy tips to try out!
1. Make a playlist: Pick out some of your favorite holiday songs and share the link with everyone in your virtual party so you can all enjoy the same soundtrack.
2. Get all dressed up: Just because you aren’t in the same room, doesn’t mean you can’t still show off your favorite holiday dress (or ugly sweater).
3. Cook something together: Try picking out a fun holiday recipe and create your own virtual group cooking class. Just make sure you watch those fingers — and not your screen — when you’re chopping up vegetables!
4. Bring on the games: It’s easy to have a virtual match of charades, 21 questions, or create your own holiday-themed trivia!
5. Be grateful for one another: Even if it’s virtual, it’s always nice to see loved ones and catch up over the holidays. Go around the virtual table and share what you're thankful for this year. Whatever your traditions are, try to find creative ways to keep them going!
Cooler weather also means enjoying some of the most comforting flavors. Here are four tastes you should seek out to really savor this season!
Pumpkin
From lattes, to cookies and cake, anything pumpkin flavored just screams “fall”!
Maple
Another great flavor that pairs well with coffee; you can also drizzle some syrup on your oatmeal and add some nuts to it for a sweet twist.
Apple
Apple pie, hot apple cider, apple cake, apple crumble… the list of yummy apple treats is endless.
Caramel
So buttery and sweet! Enjoy some caramel spread on toast in the morning, or drizzle a little bit on some plain popcorn. Yum!
Just because the weather isn’t cooperating doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with the kids.
Play hide and seek.
When’s the last time you played a good old game of hide and seek as a family?
Plan a movie marathon.
Grab your favorite flavor of Lay’s® potato chips or dish up a bowl of Smartfood® popcorn and slip into your PJs to revisit some family classics.
Do some crafts.
Look online for some simple crafts to do with the kids. Get them to create something to decorate their room, or give them a theme, like St.Patrick’s Day or Easter to help inspire their efforts.
Have a board game night.
Teach your children a new card game or play a round of each person’s favorite board game.
Plan an indoor picnic.
Instead of eating lunch at the table, lay down a tablecloth in the living room, and have fun munching on sandwiches paired with everyone's favorite snacks.
What could be better than curling up by the fire with a good book and something hot to sip on?
Mulled wine
Spicy, warm, and delicious—if you’ve never tried mulled wine, you’re missing out!
Dark hot chocolate
This hot chocolate for grown-ups is simply to die for. Add some cayenne powder or cinnamon for an extra kick!
Hot tea
There are so many flavors and types of teas to taste and experience. Why not take advantage of the cold season to try as many as possible?
Warm sangria cider
Sangria in winter? Yes, please! Tasty, warm, and comforting.
Here are a few tips to help you choose the perfect pumpkin this fall!
Decide what to do with it beforehand.
Are you going to make your pumpkin into a jack-o'-lantern, or maybe into a pie? You might want to pick up two if your plans involve decorating and baking.
Choose a firm pumpkin with its stem intact.
If you’re planning to carve the pumpkin, you’ll want one that will last as long as possible.
Buy more than one.
Consider buying two pumpkins or more to leave in the window, use as a centerpiece, or decorate the house. The more, the merrier!
